Holding a certification as an Admiralty and Maritime Law Specialist from the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, Otis previously held a position as in-house counsel for Princess Cruises and Cunard, where he managed litigation, particularly focusing on cases involving crew and passengers. He served as a round-the-clock legal resource for various departments, including those related to ongoing ship operations in different legal jurisdictions. Subsequently, he took on the role of general counsel, overseeing various theme cruises that featured prominent national brands, and he achieved successful defense outcomes for multiple vessel owners and operators along the West Coast, spanning more than ten years. Since becoming a part of Wilson Elser, Otis has secured victories in several notable admiralty cases initiated by vessel owners under the Limitation of Liability Act. He continues to offer guidance to marine recreational rental companies concerning charters, rental agreements, and the creation of effective liability waivers.
