Edward Sivin

Attorney Edward Sivin is a senior partner and the principal appellate lawyer at the law firm of Sivin Miller & Roche, LLP, Attorneys at Law, in New York, NY.  Mr. Sivin practices primarily in the areas of civil rights and personal injury law, serving clients in the New York City metropolitan area and throughout New York State.Mr. Sivin represents victims of police misconduct in cases involving excessive force, false arrest, malicious prosecution, and unjust conviction.  He also represents pre-trial detainees and prisoners throughout the State of New York in claims involve excessive force by correction officers and negligent supervision by correctional staff.  He also represents New York residents in personal injury matters involving brain injury, motor vehicle accidents, construction accidents, and premises liability.Over the course of his career, Mr. Sivin has successfully argued many significant appeals that have set legal precedents providing better protections for victims of police misconduct and prison abuse.  He has also obtained substantial verdicts and settlements on behalf of victims of police misconduct, including those who have been subject to excessive force, false arrest, and malicious prosecution, and victims of abuse by correction officers and staff.Mr. Sivin received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and earned his law degree from Rutgers Law School in Camden, New Jersey. While pursuing his law degree, he served as an editor of the law review.Following law school, Mr. Sivin obtained his license to practice law in 1982, which qualified him to appear before all New York state courts.  He also is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  He also is licensed to practice law in New Jersey.
