Leonard L. Gumport

Attorney Leonard L. Gumport has served as counsel to bankruptcy trustees, public entities, and creditors, and has also served as a bankruptcy trustee, SIPC trustee, bankruptcy examiner, provisional director. He has also served as a mediator of disputes in federal district court, bankruptcy court, and state court. He has more than 35 years of experience as a litigator, and more than 20 years of experience as a mediator. He is admitted to practice in Alaska, California, the District of Columbia, and New York. He has argued appellate matters in the California Court of Appeal, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court, and he has served as trial counsel in bankruptcy court, federal district court, and state court.Mr. Gumport received his undergraduate degree from Yale and his law degree from Columbia Law School. He is a member of the panel of mediators of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of of California.  Cases mediated by him include civil government enforcement proceedings, bankruptcy-related disputes, and litigation under consumer protection statutes. For the one-year periods 2014-2015 and 2016-2017, the ADR Program of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California gave him the award for the Mediator Who Conducted the Mediation with the Most Parties Which Settled. He has also served as a lawyer representative to the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference and as chair of the Federal Courts Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is a member of the Insolvency Law Committee of the California Lawyers Association.
