Michael A. Akiva

Michael A. Akiva joined Jacoby & Meyers in June 2009, and since November 2018, he has served as its managing partner. He is based in the firm’s main office in Los Angeles, and he focuses his practice on personal injury litigation and represents clients throughout the area. Fluent in Spanish and Hebrew as well as in English, Mr. Akiva has been admitted to practice before all California state courts since 2006.Mr. Akiva’s client base is made up of people who have incurred economic and noneconomic losses due to the negligence or recklessness of other parties. His cases have included motor vehicle crashes, premises liability, construction site accidents, defective products and auto-pedestrian accidents, and he has obtained millions of dollars in compensation for his plaintiff clients. Among his successful results in jury trials and at the negotiating table are $5.1 million in a case involving a collision between a truck and a passenger vehicle, $1.25 million for a pedestrian who was struck by a car and $1 million for a client who was severely burned by a dangerous product. These and other outcomes have all contributed to Mr. Akiva’s receipt of a “Superb” peer review rating through Avvo, which is just one of many indications of the high regard in which he is held by his fellow attorneys.Mr. Akiva is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he majored in finance and received a Bachelor of Science magna cum laude in 2003. He then enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law, and he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review before obtaining his Juris Doctor in 2006. Prior to joining Jacoby & Meyers, Mr. Akiva was an attorney at a Los Angeles-based law firm with offices around the world.
