Timothy A. Miller

As a managing partner at Valle Makoff LLP, Timothy A. Miller focuses his practice on business and contract disputes, claims involving trade secret misappropriation, breach of fiduciary duty, and claims against officers, directors and trustees. He founded the Silicon Valley office of Valle Makoff LLP to serve clients in that region and across California, litigating complex cases in federal and state courts.Mr. Miller graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Whitworth University in 1988 where he was awarded the President's Cup, which is the college's highest academic honor. In 1991 he earned his Juris Doctor from the Boalt Hall School of Law, now known as UC Berkeley School of Law. He graduated Order of Coif and served as an associate editor on the California Law Review.In 1997, he joined the Northern California branch of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. For nearly two decades, he worked as a litigation associate and then litigation counsel, becoming a partner in 2002. At Skadden, he handled a broad range of business disputes, including claims of unfair business practices and unfair competition. He represented special committees and members of board of directors regarding SEC and internal corporate investigations, and he presented a class action suit against the NFL involving retired football players. In 2016 he left Skadden to open and manage the Silicon Valley office of Valle Makoff LLP.Mr. Miller is licensed to practice law before the state courts of California. He has been frequently selected in The U.S. News & World Report’s Best Lawyers in America. He is also a writer and speaker on legal and business issues for companies, including cybersecurity and matters impacting company directors.
