Based in New York, Daniel E. Seltz is a partner whose legal practice primarily focuses on cases related to consumer protection, antitrust matters, and financial fraud. Throughout his career, he has been involved in a range of significant legal actions in various states.

In a series of federal cases spanning across Virginia, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Mississippi, Daniel was actively engaged in representing plaintiffs who asserted that certain natural gas companies had underpaid gas royalties to the rightful owners. Notably, in one of these cases that reached a settlement, the owners of the gas royalties successfully recovered approximately 95% of the damages they had incurred. In another case, the Court commended Daniel and his fellow class counsel for their diligent and expert work, performed at the highest professional standards.

Daniel played a substantial role in litigation concerning alleged overcharges in foreign currency exchange transactions carried out by BNY Mellon while acting as a custodian for pension funds. On September 24, 2015, the Court granted final approval for a $335 million settlement. This settlement, when combined with agreements reached with other government and regulatory bodies, amounted to a total compensation of $504 million for BNY Mellon’s customers. Additionally, Daniel contributed to a team that secured a $72.5 million settlement in 2019 in another similar case involving BNY Mellon.

In the realm of pharmaceutical marketing fraud cases, Daniel has been actively involved, including serving on the trial team in a case against Pfizer Inc. The case centered on Pfizer’s violation of a federal anti-racketeering law by promoting its drug Neurontin for unapproved uses. This legal battle resulted in a substantial $142 million verdict in favor of their clients, and in 2014, the Court approved a class settlement amounting to $325 million.

In recognition of his exceptional legal expertise and contributions, Daniel received the honor of being named a “Lawdragon 500 Top Plaintiff Financial Lawyer in America” for the year 2020 by Lawdragon.

Before joining his current firm, Daniel served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable John T. Nixon at the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee from 2003 to 2004.
