Douglas Hirsch, a founding member and co-head of the litigation department at Sadis & Goldberg, boasts an impressive 30-year track record in trial and appellate proceedings. His legal expertise spans intricate securities and business litigation, encompassing class actions, derivative cases, and more. Specializing in financial services and real estate sectors, Doug has cultivated extensive experience in hedge fund, venture capital fund, and private equity fund litigation, as well as investment and securities fraud, business disputes, corporate governance, cross-border insolvency litigation, fraudulent transfer and clawback claims, and real estate litigation.

Doug embarked on his career at Lord Day & Lord, Barrett Smith, subsequently joining Schulte Roth & Zabel before co-founding Sadis & Goldberg in 1996.

He earned his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 1990, where he was a distinguished member of the law review. His undergraduate degree, a B.A., was conferred upon him in 1987 by Union College. Doug is a member of the New York bar and holds admission to the First, Second, and D.C. Circuits, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Notable Legal Matters

Among the noteworthy cases Doug has managed are:

  • Securing a $25 million recovery for a “fund of funds” defrauded by a hedge fund manager.
  • Achieving an $18.9 million recovery on behalf of a group of investors in a CDO fund.
  • Obtaining a $14.5 million recovery for a minority member in a cannabis company (Weisz v. Palliatech Florida LLC, et al., AAA Case No. 01-0004-5355).
  • Successfully recovering $10.7 million for appraisal petitioners in the case of In re Orchard Enterps. Inc. S’holder Litig., 88 A.3d 1 (Del. Ch. 2014).
  • Securing summary judgment on breach of fiduciary duty and fraudulent transfer claims for a co-founder of the Bareburger restaurant chain, leading to a substantial confidential settlement (Stavroulakis v. Pelakanos et al., February 13, 2018 NY Slip Op 50180[U], 58 Misc.3d 1221(A), 106 N.Y.S.3d 725).
  • Attaining a trial verdict that completely dismissed a multi-million dollar shareholder derivative lawsuit (Moyal v. Sleppin et al., Index No. 601973/2007, Trial Dates Oct. 16-20, 2017, J. Bransten).
  • Obtaining an arbitration award that entirely dismissed a multi-million dollar claim brought by an investment advisor’s partner who alleged ownership of half of the investment advisor entity.
  • Successfully securing the complete dismissal of a lawsuit involving breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract by a partner in an investment advisory firm against a former partner (Goldberg v. GA Capital Partners LLC, Index No. 652748/2015 (N.Y. Sup. 2015)).
  • Achieving numerous trial and arbitration verdicts/awards on behalf of clients, including FINRA awards.
  • Earning numerous appellate victories in support of clients’ interests.
