Mr. Rutyna graduated magna cum laude from Boston College in 1982 and later earned his Juris Doctor from George Washington University National Law Center in 1985. After interning at the Huntington Beach City Attorney’s office and gaining admission to The State Bar of California in 1986, he served as a Deputy City Attorney for two years. Subsequently, he worked in private practice, initially with a now-defunct workers’ compensation defense firm from 1988 to 1996, handling both workers’ compensation and civil litigation. He then operated his own practice from 1996 to 2005. During this time, he continued to represent the City of Huntington Beach as outside counsel from 1989 to 2003. In 2005, he pursued further education and obtained a Master of Law (LL.M.) in Taxation from Chapman University School of Law in 2007.
Following this, Mr. Rutyna worked as an insurance defense attorney for two prominent insurance carriers, gaining valuable insights into the industry. This experience enables him to construct robust cases on behalf of his plaintiff injury clients.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Rutyna currently serves as a judge pro tem with the Long Beach District Office’s Division of Workers’ Compensation and previously volunteered as a judge pro tem in Orange County Municipal Court for traffic and small claims court. He is an active member of the Orange County Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Section and has been involved in several homeowners’ associations.
