Jacob Shisha, a seasoned attorney affiliated with Tabak Mellusi & Shisha LLP, specializes in assisting individuals who have suffered injuries while at sea. With over two decades of dedicated service to clients in the New York, New York area, Mr. Shisha also holds licenses to practice law in both New Jersey and Louisiana.

Mr. Shisha possesses a rich background in maritime industries. He achieved magna cum laude honors from the State University of New York Maritime College and subsequently worked as a deck officer on oil tankers. Later, he pursued legal education, graduating cum laude from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans with a primary focus on admiralty and maritime law. After completing law school, he joined a prominent maritime law firm in New Orleans, where he represented various shipping companies and has been a member of the Maritime Law Association since 1991.

In 1988, Mr. Shisha relocated to New York City and redirected the trajectory of his legal practice to exclusively advocate for plaintiffs in personal injury cases related to maritime incidents, encompassing injuries sustained by maritime workers during their employment and injuries to passengers resulting from ship accidents. His caseload encompasses diverse scenarios, including accidents involving fishing boats, passenger and recreational vessels, ferries, barges, and tugs. At present, 80 percent of his practice centers on litigation, encompassing cases involving deckhand injuries, unseaworthiness claims, maintenance and cure disputes, as well as other claims falling under the purview of the Jones Act and the Longshore Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.

Mr. Shisha boasts an extensive track record of jury trials and has secured numerous seven-figure verdicts for his clients throughout his illustrious career. His exceptional legal prowess has earned him recognition in the “Best Lawyers in America” list on two occasions.
