James J. Hsui is an attorney specializing in nonprofit, business, and international law based in New York. Before establishing his firm, James Hsui, PLLC, in New York City, Mr. Hsui held the position of principal legal advisor to a high-ranking diplomat at the United Nations. Prior to pursuing his legal career, Mr. Hsui pursued a bachelor’s degree in dance at the University of Oregon. Upon transitioning to the legal field, he enrolled at Brooklyn Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor with a focus on public international law and international business law. During his time at law school, Mr. Hsui served as a member of the executive board and held the role of executive articles editor for the Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial, and Commercial Law. He received accolades from The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction, including a CALI Excellence for the Future Award® in the field of food and drug law, as well as the International Economic Law Prize from Brooklyn Law School.
Mr. Hsui currently serves as the acting general counsel for a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to advocating for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, he acts as the Secretary of a working group comprising high-level diplomats committed to addressing common concerns between the United Nations and Africa. He maintains active membership in several professional associations, including the New York City Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association of New York, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Association. Furthermore, Mr. Hsui serves as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
