Jeremy A. Lieberman holds the position of Managing Partner at Pomerantz LLP, where he oversees the firm’s litigation practice. One of his significant accomplishments was leading the litigation efforts in the In re Petrobras Securities Litigation, resulting in a remarkable $3 billion settlement for defrauded investors. This high-profile securities class action revolved around a massive kickback and bribery scheme involving Brazil’s largest oil company, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras, with Pomerantz serving as the sole Lead Counsel. Notably, this was the largest securities class action settlement in a decade, the biggest involving a foreign issuer, and the fifth-largest in U.S. history.

In addition to this outstanding financial recovery, Jeremy also achieved a significant legal victory for Petrobras investors at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals by challenging the heightened ascertainability requirement for class certification, ultimately benefiting plaintiffs in securities fraud litigation. This landmark case earned recognition as a National Impact Case by Benchmark Litigation in 2019 and garnered extensive media coverage, featuring interviews with Jeremy in prominent publications like the New York Times, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and the Brazilian journal Piauí.

Jeremy, alongside partner Michael Wernke, secured a $110 million settlement in 2019 in a securities class action against Fiat Chrysler, a settlement that represented a substantial percentage of maximum recoverable damages compared to similar cases.

Furthermore, Jeremy secured a $27 million settlement for the Class in Strougo v. Barclays PLC in 2019, an exceptionally high percentage of alleged damages. This case involved allegations that Barclays PLC misled institutional investors regarding the manipulation of its “dark pool” trading systems to the advantage of high-frequency traders.

Jeremy’s leadership extended to other notable cases, such as the $80 million settlement for the Class in the Yahoo! Inc. data breach securities class action in 2018, as well as a $31 million partial settlement in the In re Libor Based Financial Instruments Antitrust Litigation in the same year.

He also played a pivotal role in securing a $225 million settlement in the In re Comverse Technology, Inc. Securities Litigation, the second-largest options backdating settlement at that time.

Jeremy’s expertise extends internationally, consulting with Pomerantz’s institutional clients worldwide, including pension funds, regarding their rights under U.S. securities laws. He is actively involved in representing UK and EU pension funds and asset managers in individual actions against BP plc in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas following the Supreme Court’s Morrison v. National Australia Bank, Ltd. ruling.

Recognized as a leader in his field, Jeremy received various accolades, including being named the 2019 Plaintiff Attorney of the Year by Benchmark Litigation, and earning recognition as a Titan of the Plaintiffs Bar by Law360 in 2018. His team at Pomerantz was also awarded Law360’s Securities Practice Group of the Year in 2018.

Jeremy frequently lectures on corporate governance and securities litigation topics worldwide and organizes educational events for Pomerantz. His events have featured distinguished speakers, including members of the British House of Lords, SEC Commissioner Robert Jackson, and Boris Johnson. President Bill Clinton was set to be the guest speaker at the Pomerantz 2020 Roundtable in California.

Jeremy graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 2002, where he also served as a staff member of the Fordham Urban Law Journal. He began his legal career as a litigation associate at a major New York law firm, specializing in complex commercial litigation.

Jeremy is admitted to practice in various U.S. federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, and several U.S. Courts of Appeals and District Courts.
