His professional achievements have earned him the esteemed “Super Lawyers” award every year since 2012, a recognition bestowed upon no more than 5 percent of lawyers in the state. Michaels has also authored over 100 articles for the distinguished Los Angeles Daily Journal, setting a historic record dating back to 1880. In 2015, he earned a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism nomination for his impactful work on the GM ignition switch recall.

He graduated from the USC Marshall School of Business in 1992 and subsequently completed his legal education at Whittier Law School, where he graduated in the top 4 percent of his class. During law school, he served as the Notes and Comments Editor of Law Review, participated in national Moot Court Honors Board competitions, and published a winning Law Review article now housed in the U.S. Library of Congress.
