Michael P. Cavanagh is a distinguished alumnus of the State University of New York at Albany, where he graduated with honors, cum laude, holding a double major in English and Political Science. During his time there, he also actively participated in club ice hockey. Michael furthered his academic journey by earning his Juris Doctor degree with honors from Albany Law School of Union University in 1994. At Albany Law School, he served as the Note & Comment Editor for the Albany Law Review.
Currently, Michael serves as a Partner in his law firm, specializing as a trial and appellate lawyer. His primary focus lies in the defense of tort cases, encompassing premises liability, construction accidents, products liability, and medical malpractice. Additionally, Michael possesses expertise in employment law, where he represents employers. Over the course of his career as a trial attorney, he has successfully completed more than 50 jury trials in both state and federal courts. His appearances before appellate courts have been marked by success, including persuasive arguments before the New York Court of Appeals. Notably, Michael played a pivotal role as one of the founding members of the firm’s Diversity Committee and holds an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell.
Michael is licensed to practice law in the State of New York, along with admission to the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, and Eastern Districts of New York, as well as the United States District Court for Vermont. Beyond his legal practice, he has shared his expertise through lectures on trial practice and various civil litigation matters. Furthermore, Michael maintains active membership in the New York State and Albany Bar Associations. In his personal life, he is an enthusiastic runner and hockey player, having accomplished the challenging feats of completing the 1981 and 2003 New York Marathons, as well as the 2000 Boston Marathon.
