Attorney Paul J. Smoot specializes in personal injury, employment law, and elder law. He is the founder of the Law Office of Paul J. Smoot, located in San Mateo, California. His legal representation extends to clients in the San Francisco Bay Area and across Northern California.

Mr. Smoot obtained his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, following his graduation from the University of San Francisco. With a background of 18 years at Anderlini, Finkelstein, Emerick & Smoot, where he eventually became a named partner, he established his independent firm when the former dissolved in 2008.

At present, Mr. Smoot holds licenses to practice in California’s state courts, all four federal district courts in the state, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. Beyond his legal practice, he has actively engaged with various professional and community groups. Notably, he has held multiple leadership roles in the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association, including a term as its president. Additionally, Mr. Smoot has contributed his services to the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and similar organizations that provide legal assistance to individuals who lack the financial means.

Throughout his career, Mr. Smoot has been dedicated to pro bono work. He formerly represented the San Mateo County Bar Association as a Federal Emergency Management Agency representative. He maintains longstanding membership with the World Jurist Association, an entity affiliated with the United Nations that is committed to advancing the rule of law as a pathway to global peace.
