Richard L. Rosen, the founding member of The Richard L. Rosen Law Firm, PLLC, based in New York, has established himself as a prominent figure in the realm of franchise law. Mr. Rosen earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Cornell University in 1965, where he was a New York State Regents Scholar. He obtained his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1968, receiving the American Jurisprudence Prize in Criminal Law. In the same year, he was admitted to practice by the New York State Bar Association, and he also holds admissions to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd and 9th Circuits.
Actively engaged in the legal community, Mr. Rosen has served as the immediate past chair of the Fair Franchising Standards Committee and holds a position on the board of directors of the American Association of Franchisees & Dealers. His outstanding contributions to the field led to him receiving the organization’s Total Quality Franchising Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as a founding member and past Chairman of the Franchise, Distribution, and Licensing Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, where he chaired both the Franchise Relations and Mission Statement Committees.
Furthermore, Mr. Rosen maintains an active presence in various other professional legal organizations and is a prolific author, lecturer, and seminar presenter, with a focus on franchise law and other legal topics. His contributions include co-authoring sections on Franchise Law in the United States for several editions of the (International) Franchise Law Review, as well as the US Franchise Law Analysis in the International Comparative Legal Guide to: Franchise. His firm has also authored sections on Franchise Law in the States of New York and New Jersey for Lexology’s Digital Editions of Franchise USA. Mr. Rosen and his firm contributed the Chapter on Real Estate Development In The Cross-Border Franchise Context to the 2022 Edition of Lexology GTDT Franchise. Recently, he completed a Chapter on litigation from the franchisee perspective, set to appear in a Franchisee Guidebook published by the American Bar Association.

He also earned the Global 100 award as Franchise Attorney of the Year in the USA in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and was named Franchise Lawyer of the Year in the United States by International Finance and Law in 2017, 2018, and 2019, as well as Franchise Lawyer of the Year-USA for 2020 by Lawyer International. In 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, Richard was recognized as one of the 100 Best Attorneys In The World by LegalComprehensive.com.
