Robert Burch, the founding partner at Burch Shepard Family Law Group, is dedicated to providing legal services to clients in Newport Beach, Orange County, and across California. His primary focus lies in the realm of family law, encompassing divorce, community property division, child and spousal support, domestic violence and protective orders, child custody, complex marital estates, and international custody cases.

Before pursuing his Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law, Mr. Burch graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1996 and has held certification as a family law specialist by the Board of Legal Specialization since 2007. Throughout his career, he has exclusively practiced family law, handling a wide range of cases.

Mr. Burch’s professional passion revolves around the financial aspects of divorce, with a specific focus on representing business owners and their spouses, as well as managing complex marital estates. He has been involved in marital estates valued at up to $500 million and has secured child and spousal support awards as high as $125,000 per month for his clients.

Additionally, Mr. Burch is deeply involved in child custody matters, including international custody cases. He played a pivotal role in the high-profile “Baby Santina” international custody case, where he and his co-counsel successfully opposed a team of four attorneys led by Gloria Allred.

Mr. Burch’s commitment to the field of family law extends to his role as the President of the Family Law Section for the Orange County Bar Association. He has held various positions on the Executive Committee for the Family Law Section, as elected by his family law peers. He has authored numerous articles for legal publications in California and teaches Continuing Legal Education courses in family law, offering education credits to family law specialists. As a member of the Executive Committee of the family law section for the past seven years, Mr. Burch maintains a close working relationship with family law bench officers.

His exceptional work in family law has earned him recognition from independent rating services, including Super Lawyer magazine, which has consistently named him a Super Lawyer in family law for Southern California since 2015. He holds the highest rating (10.0) from the lawyer rating agency AVVO since 2010 and has been acknowledged by OC Metro Magazine as one of the top family law attorneys in Orange County.

Mr. Burch possesses a deep understanding of the intricacies and challenges associated with family law cases. He strives to achieve amicable resolutions for clients and their families as his primary goal, but he remains a staunch advocate for his clients when necessary, vigorously defending their interests when the opposition proves unyielding.
