Shawn J. Zovod serves as a partner at Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders LLP, playing an integral role in the firm’s Environmental and Natural Resources Group. Her primary focus lies in the realm of environmental and natural resources law and strategy, with a particular emphasis on statutes like the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and related federal and state laws governing natural resources in California and the western states.

Within her capacity, Ms. Zovod extends well-informed guidance to a diverse clientele, including private and public landowners, prominent institutions, and utility corporations. She adeptly handles negotiations with both federal and state regulatory bodies, such as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, as well as CalGEM and other relevant resource regulatory entities. Her representation spans across various sectors, ranging from residential, commercial, and renewable energy developers to agricultural, mining interests, and conservation groups.

Ms. Zovod pursued her academic journey by studying politics and economics at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Later, she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Arizona in 1992. In 1995, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings, College of the Law, where she held the position of articles editor for the Constitutional Law Quarterly.

As an active contributor to her community’s knowledge base, Ms. Zovod has engaged in numerous speaking engagements throughout California and has also authored several articles published in reputable journals.
